In einer Doppelblindstudie lag während einer endoskopischen Ultraschalluntersuchung der selbstkontrollierte Verbrauch an Propofol und Alfentanil bei Patienten mit begleitender Elektroakupunkturbehandlung deutlich niedriger als in der Kontrollgruppe. Im Rahmen der Diagnostik bei Patienten mit Leber-Gallen-Problemen ist oftmals eine endoskopische Ultraschalluntersuchung (Endosonografie) erforderlich. Um die Untersuchung für die Betroffenen möglichst angenehm zu gestalten und sie erfolgreich durchführen zu können, werden den Patienten Beruhigungs- und Schmerzmittel verabreicht.
