Original Titel: Effects of acupuncture for the treatment of endometriosis-related pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Acupuncture and herbs improve eyesight for patients with diabetic retinopathy. In a controlled clinical trial, Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine ophthalmology department researchers determined that herbal medicine monotherapy benefits vision. The addition of acupuncture to the treatment protocol significantly improved patient outcomes. Diabetic retinopathy patients receiving acupuncture and herbal medicine demonstrated significant improvements in visual acuity. Also, patients demonstrated improvements in the health of the retina; there were reductions in ocular microaneurysms, hard exudate, cotton wool spots, retinal bleeding, edema, and leaking blood vessels. [1] Before and after treatment, the data was verified with visual acuity tests (with...

Acupuncture successfully regulates hormones and ovarian blood flow in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) related infertility. Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital of Hengfeng County researchers compared the efficaciousness of acupuncture and drug therapy. The addition of acupuncture to drug therapy produced superior patient outcomes over patients receiving only drug monotherapy. [1] The combined integrative medicine protocol using acupuncture produced improvements in the regulation of estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone (T), and prolactin (PRL) levels. Also, ultrasound imaging reveals that acupuncture improves ovarian blood circulation. A total of 124 women diagnosed with infertility due to...

Abstract Introduction Systematic reviews need constantly updating as new evidence emerges. The aim of this comprehensive systematic review/meta-analysis focused on trials that provided acupuncture during in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) which were compared with routine care for a range of outcomes – implantation rate, biochemical pregnancies (presence of a positive urinary pregnancy test or a positive serum human chorionic gonadotrophin test), clinical pregnancies, ongoing pregnancies, and rates of miscarriage and live birth. Methods A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on acupuncture treatment during IVF or ICSI was carried out from database inception until July 31, 2017. Study selection, data extraction, quality assessment and...

Abstract Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture therapy and carbamazepine therapy for primary trigeminal neuralgia. Methods: A total of 150 patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia treated in Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Linyi Central Hospital from January 2010 to December 2016 were selected. They were divided into acupuncture group (n=75) and drug group (n=75). The patients in the acupuncture group received acupuncture based on the shape of trigeminal nerve once daily with 10 days as a treatment course. The results were observed after two treatment courses. Those in the drug group took 0.1 g carbamazepine three times daily...

Patients with hypertension treated with acupuncture experienced drops in their blood pressure that lasted up to a month and a half, researchers with the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine have found. Their work is the first to scientifically confirm that this ancient Chinese practice is beneficial in treating mild to moderate hypertension, and it indicates that regular use could help people control their blood pressure and lessen their risk of stroke and heart disease. “This clinical study is the culmination of more than a decade of bench research in this area,” said Dr. John Longhurst, a University of California,...

Review question Cochrane authors reviewed the evidence on the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture or acupressure in women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Background We wanted to know whether using acupuncture or acupressure therapy was better than receiving sham acupuncture, no treatment or currently recommended pharmaceutical medications for PMS such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs – a type of anti-depressant). Study characteristics We found five randomised controlled trials including 277 women that examined the effect of acupuncture or acupressure in women with PMS. The evidence is current to September 2017. We also ran a smaller search in November 2017 to see...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy (BIPN) is a common and debilitating side effect. Our pilot study demonstrated that acupuncture is safe and can decrease total neuropathic symptoms. However, there is lack of knowledge in which individual BIPN symptoms benefited from acupuncture. PURPOSE: To characterize individual symptoms reduced by acupuncture in patients with BIPN. METHODS: Patients with multiple myelomatreated with bortezomib who developed BIPN grade 2 or above, based on National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI CTCAE), were enrolled and received 10 acupuncture treatments over 10 weeks. Self-reported BIPN-associated symptoms assessments were collected weekly at baseline, during,...
