Wen Dan Tang helpful in schizophrenia

The Chinese herbal formula Wen Dan Tang (WDT) may be helpful for people with schizophrenia, according to a Cochrane Database systematic review by Chinese authors who analysed 15 randomised trials involving 1437 participants. The results showed that WDT may have some beneficial effects on short-term global outcomes and mental state in people with schizophrenia, compared to placebo or no treatment. WDT was found to be non-inferior to antipsychotic drugs (such as chlorpromazine or risperidone) for global outcomes and mental state, and was associated with fewer side-effects. When WDT was combined with a low dose of antipsychotic medication, positive effects on global and mental state were found, and side effects were reduced.
