Acupuncture treatment can benefit men with premature ejaculation (PE), Turkish investigators report. One hundred and twenty patients with chronic PE were randomised to receive either dapoxetine (a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used as a pharmacological treatment for PE), acupuncture or sham acupuncture over a period of four weeks. The acupuncture group received two sessions per week, with needling at Yintang M-HN-3, Zhongji REN-3, and bilateral Baihuanshu BL-30, Zhishi BL-52, Zusanli ST-36, L.I.-4 Hegu and LIV-3 Taichong. Sham acupuncture was performed with shallow needle insertion at locations one centimetre to the left of each selected acupoint. Although less effective than dapoxetine, acupuncture was observed to have a significant ejaculation-delaying effect compared with sham acupuncture.
